Active global citizenship, service as action, and sustainable development are initiatives and imperatives that many schools include within visions and missions. However, schools find great challenges in deeply embedding these initiatives into long-term curriculum and community programs that still meet pre-existing standards. The Inspire Citizens Empathy to Impact approach (Care, Aware, Able, Impact) empowers all educators and students to co-create globally-minded, holistic, and customized learning to create relevant, impactful outcomes “For the good of all and sustainable development of the world.”

In this pre-conference workshop, Inspire Citizens will work deeply with participants on applying the Empathy to Impact Approach into personalized pedagogical contexts in order to seamlessly embed Global Competence strands, Sustainable Development Goals, and active citizenship into pre-existing units and curriculum.

Secondly, participants will have the opportunity to delve into the Inspire Citizens’ Global Impact School framework: 9 pathways and 50 benchmarks that encompass school-wide visioning, strategic planning, wellness, media literacy, and the building of internal capacity for sustainable education, service learning, and impactful action across an entire school and local community.

Beginning with a pre-assessment via the pathways and benchmarks, participants will ideate long and short term goals while actively experiencing tools to amplify diversity in school culture, global impact, and student learning. By integrating the Global Impact School model with best-practice design principles for long-term, successful professional learning, participants will walk away with a tangible plan to transform their schools, classrooms, and student outcomes.
